183b978d08 Factorises the address code description and printing
of memcheck and helgrind in a common module:
  pub_tool_addrinfo.h pub_core_addrinfo.h m_addrinfo.c

At the same time, the factorised code is made usable by other
tools also (and is used by the gdbserver command 'v.info location'
which replaces the helgrind 'describe addr' introduced 1 week ago
and which is now callable by all tools).

The new address description code can describe more addresses
(e.g. for memcheck, if the block is not on the free list anymore,
but is in an arena free list, this will also be described).

Similarly, helgrind address description can now describe more addresses
when --read-var-info=no is given (e.g. global symbols are
described, or addresses on the stack are described as
being on the stack, freed blocks in the arena free list are
described, ...).
See e.g. the change in helgrind/tests/annotate_rwlock.stderr.exp
or locked_vs_unlocked2.stderr.exp

The patch touches many files, but is basically a lot of improvements
in helgrind output files.
The code changes are mostly refactorisation of existing code.

521a1c8ec4 In an attempt to fix the accounting for dynamic memory allocation
it turned out that coregrind freely allocates memory on the tool
arena (which it should not, conceptually) and tools rely on coregrind
doing so (by VG_(free)'ing memory allocated by coregrind).
Entangling this mess is risky and provides little benefit except
architectural cleanliness. 
Thinking more about it... It isn't really all that interesting how
much memory is allocated by tool code in and by itself.  What is
interesting is the total memory impact a tool has, e.g. as compared
to running "none".
So in this patch the number of memory arenas is consolidated by
subsuming VG_AR_TOOL/ERRORS/EXECCTXT into VG_AR_CORE.
VG_(malloc) and friends have been modified to operate on VG_AR_CORE.

886fffc9bd mips64: Correct the value for the VG_MIN_MALLOC_SZB
The VG_MIN_MALLOC_SZB was incorrectly defined for MIPS64.
The incorrect value was 8 and the correct value is 16.
Fixes massif/tests/big-alloc for MIPS64.

5dd4c02e39 mips: adding MIPS64LE support to Valgrind
Necessary changes to Valgrind to support MIPS64LE on Linux.
Minor cleanup/style changes embedded in the patch as well.
The change corresponds to r2687 in VEX.

0ac5603a9d Implement a more efficient allocation of small blocks which are never freed.
This generalises the "perm_malloc" function which was in ms_main.c
The new VG_(perm_malloc) is used in ms_main.c
and for execontext : when there are a lot of execontext, this
can save significant memory.

6045181f3c Change the default (minimum) client malloc alignment from 8 to 16
on ppc32-linux.  This is needed to make Altivec-using code work
correctly.  Noticed when running ./auxprogs/gsl16test with gcc-4.6
with args -mcpu=970 -g -O3 -ftree-vectorize on Memcheck, in
which case a few of the tests failed because malloc() returns
8 byte aligned memory when it should return 16-aligned memory.

e9de458500 Merge from branches/ARM, all parts of the ARM-Linux port except for

07045477ca Merge the DARWIN branch onto the trunk.
I tried using 'svn merge' to do the merge but it did a terrible job and
there were bazillions of conflicts.  So instead I just took the diff between
the branch and trunk  at r10155, applied the diff to the trunk, 'svn add'ed
the added files (no files needed to be 'svn remove'd) and committed.

3ed4532cde In the core, include malloc_usable_size() as one of the functions that must
be replaced if malloc() et al are replaced by a tool.  This is because
different tools implement the function in different ways.

Add an appropriate malloc_usable_size() replacement to each of Memcheck,
Helgrind, DRD, Ptrcheck, Massif.

Update memcheck/tests/malloc_usable and add massif/tests/malloc_usable.

Merged from the DARWIN branch.

335992d8fc Merge all remaining changes from branches/PTRCHECK. These are some
relatively minor extensions to m_debuginfo, a major overhaul of
m_debuginfo/readdwarf3.c to get its space usage under control, and
changes throughout the system to enable heap-use profiling.

The majority of the merged changes were committed into
branches/PTRCHECK as the following revs: 8591 8595 8598 8599 8601 and
8161.

d95559802b Changed Massif to record the 'slop' heap bytes caused by rounding asked-for
sizes up to a multiple of 8 (or whatever --alignment is).  This is combined
with the "admin" bytes, resulting in the "extra" bytes.  Added
VG_(malloc_usable_size) to the tool interface to support this.

cc8ccbbfb4 This commit merges in changes from branches/ASPACEM (specifically,
changes from r4341 through r4787 inclusive).  That branch is now dead.
Please do not commit anything else to it.

For the most part the merge was not troublesome.  The main areas of
uncertainty are:

- build system: I had to import by hand Makefile.core-AM_CPPFLAGS.am
  and include it in a couple of places.  Building etc seems to still
  work, but I haven't tried building the documentation.

- syscall wrappers: Following analysis by Greg & Nick, a whole lot of
  stuff was moved from -generic to -linux after the branch was created.
  I think that is satisfactorily glued back together now.

- Regtests: although this appears to work, no .out files appear, which
  is strange, and makes it hard to diagnose regtest failures.  In
  particular memcheck/tests/x86/scalar.stderr.exp remains in a 
  conflicted state.

- amd64 is broken (slightly), and ppc32 will be unbuildable.  I'll
  attend to the former shortly.

d2d79a668a Partial implementation of mallinfo(). It still puts zero in all
the fields, but all the plumbing is now there so that m_mallocfree.c
can fill them in.

eb32bc7045 Modularised the malloc/free stuff into two modules: m_mallocfree for the
malloc/free implementation, and m_replacemalloc with the stuff for the tools
that replace malloc with their own version.  Previously these two areas of
functionality were mixed up somewhat.
